C. Thomas Haytmanek, MD, presented at the Notre Dame Orthopaedic Society on October 9, 2026, in South Bend, Indiana. His presentation, titled “Open Vs. Arthroscopic Lateral Ankle Ligament Repair: Old School Does Not Mean Antiquated,” explored two surgical approaches used to treat lateral ankle ligament injuries and chronic ankle instability.
The presentation highlighted the continued relevance of traditional open ligament repair alongside newer arthroscopic techniques. While advances in minimally invasive surgery have expanded treatment options, established open procedures remain an important consideration when selecting the appropriate surgical approach.
Dr. Haytmanek’s participation reflects his ongoing involvement in orthopedic education and discussions surrounding surgical techniques for foot and ankle conditions.
