Dr. C. Thomas Haytmanek recently covered the World Cup Ski races in Val D’Isere, France.
Every December, the world’s best skiers gather in Val d’Isère for high-level competitions.
On December 14 and 15, 2024 athletes gathered for a memorable weekend of competition, under the sign of the first snows and in an atmosphere of sharing, excellence, respect and commitment. Dr. Haymanek was on hand to assist the athletes with any injuries and/or orthopedic needs.
All of the ski events involved skiing down a course set with flexible red and blue poles. These are known as gates, and are normally set in pairs. A skier must pass through all the gates to complete the course, and the fastest skier wins. There are no time penalties – a skier who fails to pass through all the gates correctly is disqualified. There are four disciplines, divided into technical and speed, with the main difference being how far apart the gates are set.
